WWE SmackDown: AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose World Title Match Set

Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles will be going head to head for the WWE World Championship on the September 27 episode of SmackDown.

At SmackDown’s Backlash pay-per-view, AJ Styles defeated Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Championship, earning his first title since arriving in January. These two then got placed in a Triple Threat match for No Mercy, with the title on the line, and John Cena is involved too. This will take place on Sunday, October 9.

However, on the September 13 episode of SmackDown, Shane McMahon promised Ambrose he would get his one on one rematch with Styles soon.

Well, it seems this will take place a bit quicker than expected. Daniel Bryan, SmackDown’s General Manager, announced that Styles vs. Ambrose for the world title will take place on the September 27 episode of the Blue Brand. This came after The Lunatic Fringe defeated Cena in a one on one match, which also had The Phenomenal One interfere.

Having this match on SmackDown seems a bit sooner than expected. It could have been something to save for a future pay-per-view, but having this headline next Tuesday’s show should make it must-watch. It could set the tempo for the No Mercy title match, which may see a new champion defend.

Important matches have made SmackDown feel relevant for the past two months. There are only two hours to fit it in, but so far, this hasn’t been an issue. No one is arguably getting too much or too little time to tell their story, leading to a satisfying ending.

So, we’ll see if Dean Ambrose can walk out of SmackDown with the world title. If not, he’ll get one more chance at No Mercy vs. AJ Styles and John Cena.
