WWE NXT results: April 29, 2020

Isaiah "Swerve" Scott def. El Hijo del Fantasma in an Interim NXT Cruiserweight Title Tournament Group B Match

"Swerve" improved his tournament record to 1-1 in crafty fashion, dealing El Hijo del Fantasma his first loss by pinning him with a crucifix roll-up after an exciting back-and-forth encounter.

Candice LeRae def. Kacy Catanzaro

"The Poison Pixie" has a new attitude, and it already appears to be paying dividends in the ring. Accompanied by husband Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae knocked off Kacy Catanzaro in vicious fashion, putting her away with the "Wicked Stepsister" — a surfboard face smash.

Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel of Imperium attacked NXT Tag Team Champions Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher

Already demonstrating instant in-ring chemistry in their first title defense, Matt Riddle & Timothy Thatcher showed they were also on the same page out of the ring during "The Newly-Bro Show." But the fun came to an end when Imperium's Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel sent them a devastating message.

NXT Women's Champion Charlotte Flair def. Mia Yim

Charlotte Flair looked comfortable in her first match since reclaiming her throne on the black-and-gold brand, forcing Mia Yim to submit with the Figure-Eight Leg Lock. The Queen wasn't able to soak in her victory for long, though, as Io Shirai immediately confronted her ahead of their title showdown next week.

Dexter Lumis def. Shane Thorne

The NXT Universe still knows very little about Dexter Lumis, but they've definitely learned he's a force to be reckoned with in the ring. He knocked off another opponent this week, making quick work of Shane Thorne with a modified Uranage before transitioning directly into the Anaconda Vice.

Drake Maverick def. Tony Nese in an Interim NXT Cruiserweight Title Tournament Group A Match

Despite being disrespected and underestimated by Tony Nese, Drake Maverick dug deep to keep his hopes alive, improving his tournament record to 1-1 after a massive avalanche bulldog.

NXT North American Champion Keith Lee def. Damian Priest

Overcoming a bruised larynx suffered last week at the hands of Damian Priest, Keith Lee overcame The Archer of Infamy in perhaps his gutsiest performance yet. The Limitless Superstar thwarted Priest's attempt to once again use his nightstick, pinning him after a pair of huge Spirit Bombs.

Lee puts his title on the line against Damian Priest

After eyeing Keith Lee’s North American Championship for weeks, Damian Priest will finally get a one-on-one opportunity at the title tonight on NXT on USA Network.

The Limitless Superstar has looked practically unstoppable since dethroning Roderick Strong for the championship in January, even prevailing against Priest and Dominik Dijakovic in a Triple Threat Match earlier this month. However, as The Archer of Infamy pointed out, Lee didn’t defeat Priest in that bout.

Priest already enters with an advantage thanks to his dastardly actions. Priest ambushed Lee during his tag team contest with The Velveteen Dream against The Undisputed ERA this past week on NXT and clubbed him in the throat with a nightstick, leaving him unable to finish the match and later diagnosed with a bruised larnyx.

Will The Limitless One recover and retain his title? Or will The Archer of Infamy come one step closer to making sure his name lives forever by becoming the new North American Champion?

The Queen goes one-on-one with Mia Yim

Charlotte Flair wants to repay Mia Yim for helping “make her a star” years ago. But will the HBIC make The Queen regret returning the favor?

Nearly six years after claiming the NXT Women’s Title for the first time, Charlotte Flair has returned to her original throne in WWE after toppling Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania. The Queen has been effusive in her praise for the black-and-gold brand’s Women’s division but singled out Yim — whom she faced during her first championship reign in NXT — as someone she wanted to face.

While Flair has taken her game to revolutionary heights since their first encounter, The HBIC has also blossomed into a legitimate player. However, a win over The Queen would undoubtedly represent the biggest triumph in Yim’s career.

Tune in to NXT tonight at 8/7 C to see if Yim can show Flair that she is more than just a “good hand.”

Will Maverick or Nese avoid an 0-2 start?

Drake Maverick and Tony Nese will be in must-win situations when they face off tonight in an Interim NXT Cruiserweight Title Tournament Group A matchup.

Both are desperately in need of a victory after starting off 0-1 last week. Nese was knocked off by Kushida, while Maverick lost to Jake Atlas.

While Atlas showed great sportsmanship and respect while catching up with Maverick after their bout, The Premier Athlete has made it clear he feels no sympathy for Maverick.

Will Maverick bounce back, or will Nese take another step toward becoming a two-time Cruiserweight Champion? Find out tonight on NXT at 8/7 C on USA Network.
