WWE 205 Live: April 10, 2020
On the eve of the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament, a brawl broke out between Oney Lorcan and Tony Nese after The Premier Athlete inserted himself into the intense battle between Lorcan and Gentleman Jack Gallagher.
Tony Nese def. Danny Burch
With the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship beginning next week on WWE NXT, former champion Tony Nese and Danny Burch each hoped to make a case for a spot in the tournament, bringing them on a collision course with each other. The two Superstars have clashed before, but never with the stakes this high.
Burch landed one of the biggest blows of the contest when he caught Nese with a jawbreaker before the British Superstar unloaded with his brawling instincts. However, a flurry of hard-hitting offense was not enough to finish off Nese.
In control but growing frustrated, Nese executed a drop into the top rope and springboard moonsault. After escaping a crossface, Nese quickly tossed Burch into the turnbuckle with a German suplex before hitting the Running Nese for the win.
Oney Lorcan vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher ended in a No Contest
Following Tony Nese’s victory against Danny Burch, The Premier Athlete approached the announce table and refused to leave, as John Quasto and Byron Saxton continued their broadcast. Nese was making his case for why he would win the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship and felt disrespected. Gentleman Jack Gallagher made his way to the ring for his battle with Oney Lorcan. A frustrated Gallagher confronted The Premier Athlete, who finally left the ring as Lorcan made his entrance.
The early goings were highlighted by one of the most brutal back-and-forth striking contests WWE 205 Live has ever seen. The intensity continued to mount as Gallagher executed a series of headbutts before being dropped with a Half and Half Suplex.
After preventing a Half and Half from the top rope, Gallagher stopped his opponent in his tracks with a diving cross body, but he was distracted as Nese retuned to ringside and sat down. After Gallagher kicked out of a pinfall attempt, The Premier Athlete entered the ring and attacked the British Superstar. With the match ending in a No Contest, Lorcan attacked Nese, and the two battled until Burch came to Lorcan’s aid and chased away The Premier Athlete.
Can Nese come one step closer to reclaiming the title?
Last year at WrestleMania, Tony Nese captured the NXT Cruiserweight Championship in front of a hometown crowd. However, since losing the title at WWE Stomping Grounds, The Premier Athlete’s goal has been to reclaim it. With the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament on the horizon, Nese has the opportunity to present his case that he deserves to compete in the tourney.
However, The Premier Athlete faces the hard-hitting Danny Burch, who also hopes to earn a spot in the tournament. Despite suffering a loss against Kushida last week, Burch has been enjoying a string of successes on WWE NXT and WWE 205 Live that certainly help his chances for the tournament.
Can Nese overcome Burch, or will the Strong-Style Brit send The Premier Athlete back to the drawing board?
Can Gallagher’s new attitude match Lorcan’s intensity?
Two additional Superstars looking to prove they deserve to be in the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament are Oney Lorcan and Gentleman Jack Gallagher. The two Superstars have not faced off before, and this clash will be a collision of Lorcan’s intense rage and Gallagher’s merciless cunning.
Last week on WWE 205 Live, Gallagher picked up an impressive victory in his first purple brand match in four months against Tyler Breeze. While his newfound attitude served him well against Prince Pretty, it also put him at odds with fellow WWE 205 Live originals – including Tony Nese – in last month’s 10-Man Elimination Tag Team Match.
Which one of these four Superstars will make their presence felt in hopes for a spot in the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament? Don’t miss WWE 205 Live, tonight at 10/9 C, streaming on the award-winning WWE Network.
