Why Chris Jericho Has Been the MVP of WWE Raw

Three months into the brand extension its safe to say that Chris Jericho has been the MVP of WWE RAW.

Three months ago, WWE entered in a New Era as the brand extension was brought back into the company. In the process, half the roster got sent to RAW while the other went to Smackdown Live. With many advantages going into the draft such as an abundance of draft picks and the exclusive rights to the cruiserweight division, many assumed RAW would dominate Smackdown Live. However, due to injuries and a lack of depth and star power on RAW, the Blue Brand has been the winning brand so far. While The Flagship Show has many holes right now there has been one bright spot on the brand. That bright spot has been the performance of Chris Jericho.

The Best in the World at What He Does got drafted in the third round of the WWE Draft. Originally viewed as a veteran piece to add to the roster, Jericho like he always does, has superseded his expectations.

Just like he has does for many years, Jericho has once again re-imagined his on-screen character. This time, he a jerky goofball who carries around a list. As corny as the list sounds, it has actually become one of the most over parts of RAW.

Aligning himself with Universal Champion, Kevin Owens, Jericho has created the “List of Jericho”, putting anyone who insults or ticks Y2J off on it. The list has become very popular with the fans and the line “You’re on The List!” has become a hit with the fans.

Currently, RAW’s big feud is between Owens and Seth Rollins. However, it has been the addition of Y2J that has made this rivalry watchable. This past week on RAW featured one of the funniest backstage segments on the show in a long time, thanks to Jericho.

During the opening of RAW, it was revealed that someone had stolen the “List of Jericho”. It was soon made public that Rollins was the one who stole the list. Rollins told Stephanie McMahon that he had left the “List of Jericho” in the locker room. So, for the next hour and a half, the backstage segments involved Jericho interrogating talents to see who had the list now.

This provided fans with some entertaining segments involving Jericho with some of the lower card talents, using his popular tag lines “stupid idiot” and you’re going to get, “it”. Jericho was finally able to pry the list away from an intimidating Braun Strowman, then proceeded to add him on to the list.

While not in the main event of Hell in a Cell, Jericho really should be. He has been the most entertaining aspect of RAW for the last few months, and his promos with other talents have been hilarious. Despite being a heel, fans have had an issue booing The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla because he’s been so funny.

The storyline is showing that a turn on Owens and a face turn look imminent for The Best in the World at What he Does. With his new comedic persona having Jericho as a face would be a great idea. With Finn Balor out with an injury, RAW has had a hard time creating a new marquee face for the brand.

They are trying with Seth Rollins but after being a heel for so long, the process is taking some time to come together. Y2J who is an established talent  could easily add some depth to the main event Face picture on RAW.

Along with being so good on the microphone, Jericho has shown that he can still cut it in the ring. Y2J has put on some solid matches with the likes of Sami Zayn, and Rollins since being drafted to RAW.

With his ability to really help people over Jericho would be an excellent feud for Kevin Owens. Being so popular with the fans, WWE would finally be able to get some really good heat on the Prize Fighter, as he is very popular with the fans despite being a heel.

We have only been in this New Era for three months, but it is clear to say that Y2J has been the MVP of the flagship show. With his ever impressive ability to reinvent himself, Jericho continues to fight off father time, and prove that he is more than just a veteran talent.

Will he will the Universal Championship? Probably not, however, it will certainly be entertaining to see Jericho try, and continue to add more people onto to his ever popular “List of Jericho”.
