Vince McMahon Forgot Luke Gallows Played Festus
Luke Gallows had a previous stint with WWE, part of which Vince McMahon apparently doesn’t remember.
Luke Gallows returned to WWE in April and formed a tag team with Karl Anderson. These two had worked together throughout the 2010’s in New Japan Pro Wrestling. This includes multiple reigns with the IWGP Tag Team Championships. They were part of the group of NJPW stars that also featured AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura, who came to WWE in 2016.
Fans may recognize Gallows from his time in CM Punk’s Straight Edge Society. Joey Mercury and Serena were also members. However, Gallows also spent time under the name “Festus” from 2007-09. He had been under a Southern gimmick with Ray “Jessie” Gordy, until the “Luke Gallows” character came to life in the back-end of 2009.
The Festus persona was never anything to note of, and often a comedic part of this mid-2000’s era of WWE. Apparently, this had such little significance that Vince McMahon apparently doesn’t remember that Gallows had been Festus. Karl Anderson stated this in the latest episode of the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast.
More from Daily DDT
Karl Anderson: The best part of the Festus character is that we heard from Talent Relations, or the Head of Talent Relations is that Vince doesn’t even remember that he was Festus.
Luke Gallows: I don’t know if we’re even allowed to say the word, but my wife didn’t even know that I was Festus when I married her, which is real.
Anderson: We go up to the Gorilla Position, and Mark Carano would say, I’m going to go tell Vince and remind him that you were Festus. I would say, don’t tell Vince, I need this run right now.
Vince McMahon not remembering that Gallows had been Festus? That’s kind of amazing. It has been five months since he returned to WWE, too, so how this still hasn’t been found out is bizarre.
If Vince doesn’t see the comments from Gallows and Anderson’s interview, then the Chairman may never find out.
