Former WWE NXT Star Percy Watson Joins the Brand's Announce Team

Percy Watson, a star of NXT’s somewhat dark past, is joining their announce team.

Percy Watson is probably not a familiar name to fans who have recently started watching WWE. He originally appeared on Season 2 of the old NXT reality show with mentors, drama, and eliminations. Former WWE and TNA star MVP mentored him. Watson eventually went back down to the Florida-based territory when it still went under the “Florida Championship Wrestling” name, and got released in 2013.

Well, it seems Watson is back in NXT after three-and-a-half years away. He appeared on Wednesday night’s taping at Full Sail University as a commentator. This makes for a three-man booth with Tom Phillips and Corey Graves.

One would think that this is a way of transitioning Graves away from NXT. He already has his fair share of duties as a Raw commentator and recently started with 205 Live on Tuesday. Going back to Florida to tape NXT is quite the week for the Savior of Misbehavior, even though the back-to-back-to-back days are just a once per month thing. Once Watson gets comfortable behind the desk, maybe Graves will become main roster only for his commentary.

For now, though, this is WWE’s latest three-man booth, which has become a company craze. They already have Graves, Michael Cole, and Byron Saxton on Raw. Graves, Mauro Ranallo, and Austin Aries are doing 205 Live commentary. SmackDown had a three-man team, but for reasons unknown, they made it four people; Phillips, Ranallo, JBL, and David Otunga handle the duties on Tuesday nights. This may simply be too many cooks in the kitchen, unless large commentary teams are your cup of tea.

We’ll see how Percy Watson does on commentary, which will start with the December 7 episode of WWE NXT. Think this is going to go well for the 35-year-old?
