Dean Ambrose invented a crazy new match type for WWE Extreme Rules

The run-up to the showdown between Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose at WWE's Extreme Rules pay-per-view this weekend has been nothing short of weird, so it's fitting that the two men will meet in an all-new structure with a potted plant suspended high above the ring.

After Jericho destroyed Ambrose's beloved potted plant Mitch on Raw two weeks ago and Ambrose retaliated by ripping Jericho's $15,000 jacket, Ambrose revealed Monday that he was was granted the privilege to decide what type of match he would have with Jericho at Extreme Rules - and Ambrose dreamed up something that could get very, very extreme.

Sunday's Ambrose-Jericho clash will be first "Asylum match." A traditional steel cage will surround the ring, and an additional superstructure will allow various weapons (and ordinary household items) to dangle high above the mat. For Jericho and Ambrose to reach them, they'll have to scale the cage and pull them down - meaning there could be spot crazy high-flying spots.

A few of the items that were shown on the broadcast:

WWE is interestingly putting Ambrose in the same type of scenario that he faced at WrestleMania 32 against Brock Lesnar - a match that heavily advertised the potential use of brutal weapons but ultimately left fans underwhelmed. Ambrose's Asylum would probably be a smash hit in the Attitude Era, but it remains to be seen how extreme WWE will allow things to get in Shane and Stephanie McMahon's New Era.
