Breaking up The Shield launched 3 careers and led to WWE brand split
Two years ago on June 1, was the last time we'd see the WWE faction known as The Shield, wrestle together as a trio.
Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns rose to fame alongside one another. They were self-proclaimed vigilantes, standing up to in-ring injustices and creating their own brand of teamwork.
Each member brought their own unique style to the group, giving fans different characters to identify with. Ambrose served as the mouthpiece, offering wild tangents on the microphone to opponents. Rollins was dubbed "The Architect," and was known for being outspoken alongside Ambrose.
And Reigns, believe it or not was almost never heard from. He was the stoic centerpiece of the trio, often times leading the charge during their memorable arena entrances, which almost always happened from the top of an arena section entrance and through the live crowd, but he rarely saw any mic time.

They wrestled their last match together at Payback 2014, then disbanded the next night on RAW, leaving the WWE Universe more excited than worried. Each member had developed such a strong character during their time together that you could tell they were only going to become bigger stars even after the breakup.
Some may argue the split was premature, but I think it was the best thing that could've happened to them and to the WWE.
Let me tell you why.
It's allowed Seth Rollins to become the top heel.
Straight up, he's an arrogant agitator. He's one of the best heels the company has had in recent memory. Since winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and cashing in at WrestleMania 31, his mic skills have grown immensely and the depth of his character continues to expand. He's proven how impactful he could be as a champ and keeps his feuds meaningful. Rollins brings such an energy to our televisions screens that no one can emulate. While he was out with an injury from November 2015 - May 2016, his absence was truly felt. Didn't you miss him screaming at you?! Had he remained a member of The Shield, there's no possible way his star would've been able to shine this bright.
It's left room for other groups to take the spotlight.
Would The New Day be getting this much air time? Would there be a reason to bring up Enzo and Cass from NXT? No. If The Shield were still saturating storylines in the tag division, it would have severely cut down on a need to bring up more superstars. In a backward way, we can thank them for breaking up because other incredible performers get more face time. Everybody wins because while there is no faction, WWE has developed three of the best singles competitors on the roster.
It led to the brand split.
Between the disbandment of The Shield and the addition of main-roster wrestlers brought up by the New Era, the insurgence of talent has allowed the company to attempt a brand split. Starting in July 2016, the WWE will have SmackDown as a live show every Tuesday, with its own roster. Too much talent is a good problem. Inadvertently, the breakup has carved this path and now other wrestlers will be able to solidify their places in the WWE.
