5 Reasons Triple H Should Take Over WWE

A look at why Triple H may be ready to take over WWE.

Should Triple H take over WWE? Or Does Vince Still Have Something Good Up His Sleeve?

Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H has gone from being a privileged prick, to DX and their popular, insane antics, and finally to corporate status. He has shown that marrying the bosses daughter can give you quite the edge in a pro-wrestling, mega corporation such as WWE.

However, along the way he has proven that his corporate status was not only earned, but well deserved. In doing this, “The Game” has shown us various signs that the time has come for him to takeover WWE. Not necessarily as owner, but definitely as the one to call the final shots.

I’m sure that I wasn’t the only one to think “sellout” the first time “The Cerebral Assassin” first appeared in public with his new corporate look. He shocked us all with his head shaved, his ring attire exchanged for a freshly pressed suit, and looking as if his pedigree days were far behind him.

That being said, his actions have made it clear that this is the fresh look that WWE needs. His involvement with NXT, scouting out new talent, his resurrection of the cruiserweight division, and Vince’s current ratings have shown that Vince has found the right person to fill his shoes.

Triple H has gained more control in recent years as Executive Vice President of Talent. He has taken over certain projects such as acquiring new talent, live events, and creative, through managing both NXT and CWC. This has helped build excitement for new arrivals to appear on either Raw or SmackDown, but Vince McMahon is still making the final calls for WWE.

Vince may be the owner, but let’s face it. He is old and behind on times, which has caused WWE to become old in some ways too. This has caused a constant mind struggle for fans between what did happen vs what could have been. Vince doesn’t have to relinquish his ownership or even his corporate title, but there are fans and even Superstars that feel the time has come for Vince to step down. Here are 5 signs Triple H should take over WWE.

5. A Catchy New Era

WWE has been trying to fulfill a new era for quite some time with little, to no effect. The storylines that have the most potential are always dropped without warning, like the Wyatt Family kidnappings. The Diva’s Revolution dropped for the switch to back to the Women’s Division. Which is great, but the constant switch in idea leads to confusion. It look’s as though WWE has been trying to build a new era billing women as stronger athletes, only with no clue as to how to pull it off.

Former WWE writers have commented on Vince’s lapse in judgment in the past few years. Kevin Marshall even said that “the job became very quickly trying to figure out what Vince is thinking and then having him tell you he’s changed his mind” according to WrestleZone.  This has led to the WWE Universe being locked in a confused state as Vince continues to drop storylines, good or bad, on a whim.

Vince has also been predictable with loading great talent with awful gimmicks or coming up short on how to use them effectively. This makes it hard to establish any type of continuing theme, much less an era.

Triple H has proven to be the opposite with rivalries, gimmicks, entrances, and talent that can produce an exciting new era. NXT has also shown capability to build and produce an effective new era for women by introducing female talents such as Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss, Bailey, and the future promise of Asuka.

This is a sign that Triple H is headed in the right direction to help push along the next catchy era.

4. Better Talent, Gimmicks, and Rivalries

NXT’s success has stemmed from the opportunity that Triple H has presented to pro-wrestler’s from promotions worldwide. Talent is scouted from every outlet possible and what was started to develop new Superstar’s for the main roster, quickly become its own brand. All wrestler’s, from veterans to newbies are required to make their start in NXT, before heading up to the main WWE roster. Triple H likes to give all talent a shot at their own styles and gimmicks, but he also has the power to nix what he doesn’t think will go over.

Sami Zayn shared a story with Beyond the Ropes where Triple H gave him some positive feedback following a match he had with Cesaro. At the time Zayn was worried that they had taken the match too far, because the crowd was yelling “match of the year”. According to Wrestling Inc, Zayn said that instead, Triple H “was so happy because yes, it’s not going to be this like, I have my vision. the office has their vision. It was this guy who likes good stuff and he appreciates good stuff”.

Going unscripted is a huge part of what the WWE Universe has been missing. The excitement of the unscripted, which leads to the unknown. Every promo is not a “pipe-bomb”, only the ones that are truly rebellious and come from the actual Superstar are the true “pipe bomb’s”. The same goes for matches. They should not be scripted to death, yet they are. Fans realize that some things must be scripted, but there are those occasions where at the right moment, with the right Superstar, unscripted can and should happen.

Just look at what has been done already in WWE by NXT talents with gimmicks such as Finn Balor and longer in-depth rivalries like the one with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Then look back on gimmicks like Stardust, which wore out their welcome long before Superstars like Cody Rhodes decided that enough, was enough. And remember the short-winded rivalry between Paige and Charlotte. Yes, Paige said some awful things, but isn’t this where a true rivalry is born?

Triple has already brought better talent and gimmicks. Isn’t it time to see some better rivalries in WWE too?

3. Triple H Can Survive in the Ring

Vince McMahon may have tweeted that he has reached puberty on his recent 71st birthday, but the truth is, Vince is no teenager. In fact, he is well beyond mid-life. At his golden age, it’s obvious that he does not belong in an actual match, even if he is in good shape for his age. He can, however, make the occasional appearance even if Triple were calling the shots.

Vince will always do what Vince wants to do, but he should hand over most of the control and sit back to watch this amazing, pro-wrestling promotion that he has built run.

Triple H still has some in-ring action years left. He may have accomplished almost everything that can, but according to Forbes, Triple H plans on using his wrestling skills to build up new talent for the remainder of his new contract. Or possibly his ego… The details ensure that he will remain to be a WrestleMania card through 2019, leaving him plenty of time to put over some of his NXT protégés.

If Triple H should takeover WWE, he could become what Vince once was back in the days of DX. A constant corporate figure for Superstars to prank, confront, and of course, suck up too. This should inspire some fun storylines as long as it was done right.

2. The Return of the Cruiserweight Division

Triple H has been extremely successful when it comes to his startups. Just look at the progress of NXT and the now the growing popularity of the CWC tournament. The CruiserWeight Classic has had the WWE Universe buzzing since before it’s debut on the WWE Network.

Triple H has been very busy promoting both the cruiserweight tournament and the revival of the cruiserweight division on Raw. This is another of his projects and so far the results have been excellent! Triple H has been really optimistic about the cruiserweight’s arrival on Raw. He has said that “It’s something different and I think you’re going to see that. … You’ll see the presentation being different. It’s all about creating something different for Raw given the three-hour format” during the conference call prior to NXT TakeOver on August 17th, as reported by Cageside Seats.

TJ Perkins has since become the Cruiserweight Champion and the wait for the arrival of the cruiserweight’s on Raw is over, but the excitement isn’t. The cruiserweight division has the potential for an ongoing project. The best thing about the CWC is that it will bring a missed division back to both NXT and Raw!

Many of the cruiserweights have already been noticed by WWE Universe and have become fan favorites while competing in the tournament. Ten of the contestants have been signed by either NXT or Raw, but it has been rumored that more might be brought to SmackDown if things go well with Raw.

It sure looks as though “The Game” has been the one to really stir up newfound excitement for fans from what are supposed to be the lower stages of WWE. Should we see how far he can bring WWE by calling all of the shots, just as he has with the CWC?

1. NXT’s Success

Triple H summed it up best in a recent interview with ESPN, which discusses the story behind NXT. How it is reviving WWE’s main roster, and helping good athletes find their way to the top. He said “We needed to create the next generation of talent, and the success [and setup] of the WWE had kind of limited where we were getting these athletes from”. It all started with the close of the FCW facility in Tampa and the relocation of WWE’s developing talent to the newly opened NXT developmental program. The program included training, live local shows, and programming available on YouTube, Hulu, and later NXT Arrival was the opening show for the WWE Network.

Triple H has since flooded WWE with key Superstars from NXT, such as Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Bailey, and much more. He has taken the NXT live show’s and turned them into sold out world tours. The talent from NXT is so spectacular that upon entering WWE they often times put veteran Superstars to shame.

It turns out that NXT has become the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to the WWE roster. It builds new talent up, pushes them into the spotlight, and gives fans something new to hope for. The NXT roster is quick to bring in a new group like Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, No Way Jose, Austin Aries, Asuka, and Ember Moon who will eventually head over to the WWE roster too, only to refill again.

Love it or hate it, Triple H has become the heartbeat of WWE through his work with NXT. NXT has been Triple H’s baby from the start and look how far it has come in such a short time. Imagine what WWE would look like if he were raising it to.

Vince is far too old, very out of touch, and doesn’t have a clue. Are WWE’s dropped ratings, the increasing success of NXT, and the return of cruiserweight’s enough signs that Triple H should take over WWE? Or does anyone believe that Vince still has a few dropped storylines and bad gimmicks left in him?
