VCU women knock off No. 17 Arizona State 57-48
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Keira Robinson scored 14 points and Virginia Commonwealth earned its first win against a Top 25 team, upsetting cold-shooting and 17th-ranked Arizona State 57-48 in the ASU Classic on Saturday.
Ashley Pegram added 11 points for the Rams (6-1), who made 6-of-8 free throws in the final 40 seconds.
Quinn Dornstauder had 17 points and Arnecia Hawkins had 12 with 10 rebounds for the injury-depleted Sun Devils (3-2).
The Rams shot 50 percent in the second half and finished at 44 percent overall despite making just 1 of 8 3-point attempts.
Arizona State, which shot 26 percent in the first half and trailed 21-18, shot 29 percent, going 2 of 18 behind the arc.
Robinson scored the last two buckets of the first half and had a basket when the Rams opened the second half with an 8-2 run for their biggest lead, 29-20 at the 6:38 mark. Camille Calhoun had the other six points.
