Vanderbilt's Bowe leaves team for rest of season
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Vanderbilt sophomore Heather Bowe will miss the rest of the season after leaving the university due to a violation of the school's academic policy.
Bowe - averaging 5.1 points and 4.3 rebounds in 27 games, including 21 starts - is expected to return to the university and the team this summer.
Vanderbilt announced Bowe's departure in a release Thursday but did not disclose details of her violation. Commodores coach Melanie Balcomb said the team will welcome her back when she returns.
''She must face the consequences of her actions,'' Balcomb said. ''This has and will continue to be a significant learning experience for Heather and the team. We look forward to her return.''
The Commodores (18-9) are tied for fifth in the Southeastern Conference at 7-7.
