No. 24 Rutgers women beat Saint Joseph's 76-52

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) Tyler Scaife had 23 points, Betnijah Laney added 10 points and 13 rebounds and three steals, and the No. 24 Rutgers women beat Saint Joseph's 76-52 in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.

Scaife was 9 of 13 from the field and made three straight jumpers and a layup during a 12-2 run that put the Scarlet Knights up 42-29 early in the second half.

Kahleah Copper's back-to-back baskets made it 51-35 with 8:57 left and Rutgers led by no less than 14 from there.

Briyona Canty had 16 points and eight assists, Copper scored 14 and Rachel Hollivay added five blocked shots.

Ciara Andrews led Saint Joseph's with 19 points, Sarah Fairbanks scored 16 and Natasha Cloud had 10 assists. After falling behind late in the first, the Hawks closed the deficit to 30-27 early in the second, but would get no closer.
