Big South's top scorer to miss rest of season

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) Winthrop forward Erica Williams, the Big South Conference's leading scorer, will miss the rest of the season with a broken foot.

Eagles coach Kevin Cook announced Williams' status Wednesday.

Williams had averaged 16.4 points this season to lead the league. The 5-foot-10 junior was injured late in Winthrop's 58-50 loss to Charleston Southern on Saturday. Cook held out hope the injury was not as serious and that Williams might only miss a few weeks. However, he said Wednesday that surgery has been scheduled to repair the break, meaning Williams would not return.

The Eagles (3-18) have lost three straight heading into Saturday's game at Gardner-Webb.
