Valentina Shevchenko details how coach 'risked his life' during shootout in Peru

Valentina Shevchenko was caught in the middle of a shootout last weekend that resulted in one person being killed and two others being wounded. Thankfully, the UFC bantamweight escaped relatively unharmed. In her first statement since the incident, she says that's largely due to the bravery of her coach Pavel Fedotov.

According to reports, three men showed at up a restaurant where Shevchenko was having dinner and forced patrons to give up their money, cell phones and other belongings. When the men attempted to leave, two customers allegedly began shooting at robbers and a gun fight ensued.

One of those wounded in the shootout was Shevchenko's coach, Fedotov, who was shot in the abdomen and rushed to the hospital.

Shevchenko took to Facebook to explain how things went down from her viewpoint, and how her coach put his life on the line for her and those around them:

Fedotov is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

Shevchenko is scheduled to take on former bantamweight champion Holly Holm on July 23 in Chicago.
