UFC Houston Results: VIDEO - The Korean Zombie Destroys Dennis Bermudez in 1st Round
A perfectly timed and placed uppercut from Chan Sung Jung puts Bermudez to sleep less than three minutes into their main event fight at UFC Houston.
The Korean Zombie finally made it back to the Octagon after completing the mandatory two years of military service for his home country of South Korea. During that time he says he was only able to train an hour a day or only on the weekends. So Jung decided to take up the art of fencing while serving his country as an unconventional way to improve his footwork in MMA.
Seen as one of the best and most exciting featherweights in the UFC before being forced away some wondered if cage rust would be a factor. His last fight was in August of 2013. A title fight loss versus Jose Aldo where
Cage rust will not be a factor for Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez though as he has fought seven times since Jung’s last fight going 5-2. Most recently back to back unanimous decision wins over Tatsuya Kawajiri and Rony Jason. He was a finalist on season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter losing to Diego Brandao by submission. Something that has plagued him in his career. With a strong base as a NCAA Divison I wrestler he has now developed into a complete mixed martial artist.

Bermudez came out aggressive using his striking to unsuccessfully set up a takedown. A huge left from Bermudez tested Jung’s chin as he seemed wobbled for a moment. Bermudez got stuffed again but started landing wild haymakers up against the fence.
After a brief clinch and failed trip from Jung he tried to walk him down but Bermudez shot for another takedown. Jung’s takedown defence looked impenetrable. The Korean Zombie ducks a punch from Bermudez and lands a devastating right uppercut that knocks him out cold. It’s all over only two minutes and forty-nine seconds into the fight.

In the post fight interview, Jung said he knew it wasn’t sparring once he ate an overhand right from Bermudez. He also said he worked on his wrestling while he was away which definitely showed in the fight. He stopped takedown after takedown from a terrific wrestler. There was no sign of ring rust for The Korean Zombie and he will get vaulted back up to the top of the Featherweight rankings after that performance.
