UFC Houston Results: Jessica Andrade Overcomes Angela Hill In Instant Classic

Jessica Andrade defeated Invicta FC Strawweight Champion Angela Hill by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the contest 30-27.

The ladies kicked off the main portion of the UFC Houston card in style.

Jessica Andrade looked to prove that she deserves a UFC title shot. She certainly did that as she was insistent throughout the fight against Angela Hill.

Hill went for leg kicks early in the first minute of the round. Andrade showed some aggression throughout the round, forcing Hill to back up. Both fighters exchanged strikes in the first half of the first round. But Andrade began to pick up heat midway through the round by delivering combinations to Hill on multiple occasions.

While Hill appeared to look tired as the round progressed, Andrade was composed and continued to push forward. Hill had some highlights in landing some shots, but Andrade landed even more and showed a lot of aggression throughout the round.

In the second round, Andrade picked up exactly from where she left off. Andrade continued with her combinations to Hill. Despite being busted open, Andrade’s game did not alter. The most impressive part about Andrade was her ability to constantly throw out combinations throughout the match, throwing vicious head and body strikes to Hill.

With a minute left in the second round, Andrade attempted her first takedown, successfully taking the fight to the ground. Andrade looked to end the fight with a rear-naked choke, but Hill prevented Andrade from locking it in. Andrade recorded another takedown before the end of the round, entering the third round with a clear lead, owning both rounds.

To no one’s surprise, Andrade’s combinations carried over to the third round. However, Hill responded with her own combination. Both fighters slugged multiple strikes at the same time as the Houston crowd roared.

The intensity continued to pick up as Andrade looked to be close to winning by TKO. Hill knocked down Andrade to slow her momentum down. Hill attempted a takedown late in the match but was successfully defended by Andrade, who was looking to survive the round and take it to the judges.

To Hill’s credit, she took plenty of shots throughout the fight but never allowed the referee to stop the fight. After the final horn, the two showcased sportsmanship with Andrade lifting Hill. After the decision, Hill returned the favour by lifting Andrade

Andrade picked up her third straight victory while Hill, the Invicta FC Strawweight Champion, loses in her second stint in the UFC, bringing her UFC record to 1-3.

During her octagon interview, Andrade mentioned UFC Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk, putting her on notice and letting her know that she is coming for her belt.
