UFC Fight Night 104 Results: Korean Zombie returns with knockout win over Dennis Bermudez

After three and a half years, the Korean Zombie returns to the octagon to fight Dennis Bermudez at UFC Fight Night 104. Here is how it played out

The main event of UFC Fight Night 104 features the return of the Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung. After three and a half years of mandatory military service, the Korean Zombie returns to fight the No. 9-ranked featherweight Dennis Bermudez.

The last time the Korean Zombie competed in the UFC was in August 2013. After three straight finishes, Jung earned a featherweight title shot against champion Jose Aldo at UFC 163. Aldo defeated Jung by fourth round TKO after the Korean Zombie dislocated his shoulder. Following the loss, Jung was expected to fight in October 2014. But Jung pulled out of the fight with an injury and shortly afterwards announced he would serve his mandatory military service in South Korea.

Three and a half years after last fighting, no one is really sure what to expect from the Korean Zombie. Will he be the same fighter that last fought in 2013, or will Jung be a rusty shell of himself?

Dennis Bermudez has a career 16-5 record, with four knockout and three submission finishes. In 2016, Bermudez fought twice, winning both times by decision. Bermudez has one major advantage entering the main event, he has fought regularly over the past five years since joining the UFC. Bermudez will likely try to take advantage of the Korean Zombie’s ring rust and take the fight to Jung in the first round.

Bermudez enters the octagon as the -175 favorite in Vegas. The Korean Zombie enters the octagon with a 13-4 record with eight submission and three knockout finishes. An upset victory by the Korean Zombie pays +165.

Round One:

The Korean Zombie looked nervous as he walked to the octagon for the first time in almost 1200 days. Commentator Brian Stann talks about how Jung worked a government job as part of his mandatory service. The Korean Zombie was able to train daily and took up fencing. Jung says that he got good at fencing and it improved his footwork.

Dennis Bermudez came to the octagon looking confident and was singing his music as he walked to the octagon. Jon Anik mentions that Bermudez has fought seven times since Jung last fought.

As expected, Bermudez looked to start fast. Bermudez landed a leg kick and strike before going for a take down. Jung avoids the take down and lands a combination. Bermudez responds with a jab. The Korean Zombie attempts a take down, but is blocked leading to a Bermudez knee.

Bermudez lands a big right hand that appears to stun the Korean Zombie. Jung clinches against the cage. Bermudez lands a combination to the body. Both fighters exchange punches before Bermudez lands another leg kick.

Bermudez attempts another take down defense. But the Korean Zombie again stuffs Bermudez. The Korean Zombie starts walking Bermudez down, attempting to cut off the octagon. The Korean Zombie slips under a Bermudez jab and lands a massive right upper cut send Bermudez to the canvas. Referee Herb Dean moves in waving off the fight, calling for the knockout.
