UFC 210: Patrick Côté Calls Out Jake Ellenberger

Patrick Côté called out Jake Ellenberger on The Heel Hook show, announcing that he wants to fight him at UFC 210 in Buffalo.

Speaking on The Heel Hook show with Cage Pages’ Nick Strickland and Ash Lamprey, UFC welterweight fighter Patrick Côté called out Jake Ellenberger and announced that he is pushing for the two to fight at the upcoming event in Buffalo, UFC 210.

Côté, who lost his last fight against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC Ottawa in June of 2016, said: “I want to fight Jake Ellenberger. That’s the guy I’ve wanted to fight for a long time.”

Côté and Ellenberger were previously expected to battle back in January of 2015, however, the fight was never booked. The pair has traded insults on social media in the past and Côte suggested that the bad mutual feelings hadn’t dissipated, saying: “We had a beef on Twitter a couple years ago, maybe two or three years ago, and we don’t like each other.”

“I think this guy is way full of himself,” Côté said. “I don’t think he deserves to be in the top 15 anymore. This ranking in the UFC doesn’t make any sense.”

Asked whether he had any other names in mind, Côté said: “I gave them [the UFC] a couple names that I wanted to fight. I wanted to fight Matt Brown, but he’s coaching on TUF 25. Tarec Saffedine or Rick Story would be good for me. I want a guy who is ranked right now and I think I deserve that.”

Despite losing his last fight, Côté believes that he should be higher in the rankings, also reiterating that he doesn’t believe that Ellenberger should be ranked in the top 15.

“The thing is, I only have two losses in my career at 170, against Stephen Thompson who is going to fight for the title again and Cowboy Cerrone, who before his last fight was on a run and was kind of unbeatable. So, for me, it’s nonsense that those guys are in the top 15 and I’m not.”

Regardless of who he fights, Côté made sure to hammer home the point that he would like to be on the card at UFC 210 in Buffalo, saying: “It’s really close to the border to Canada, so there’s a lot of Canadians that are gonna come to this event.”

“It’s the first time they’re coming back to Buffalo since 1995 so it’s gonna be a big show. And with the DC – Johnson rematch as the main event it’s gonna be a nice evening.”
