Top lightweight Donald Cerrone cracks welterweight rankings

Donald Cerrone put on one of the best performances of his career Saturday night with his third-round TKO of former middleweight Patrick Cote for his second straight Performance of the Night bonus in as many welterweight fights.

The media rewarded Cerrone for his efforts by ranking "Cowboy" in the 170-pound division's top 15, making him the only fight in the promotion currently ranked in two weight classes.

Cerrone made his welterweight debut at 14th, one stop above Thiago Alves and a spot below Tarec Saffiedine. Albert Tumenov, who had just entered the rankings last week, dropped out of the top 15 with Cerrone's addition. Cowboy has finished both of his opponents during his pivot to 170, and since 2013, has beaten ever other lightweight in his way not named Rafael dos Anjos or Anthony Pettis.

Also making a big jump in the rankings is Scottish strawweight Joanne Calderwood, who moved up five spots to seventh after her win over Valerie Letourneau. Calderwood did what not even champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk could do, finishing Letourneau in the third round of their main card bout.

Calderwood has landed over 100 strikes in all of her UFC wins, and at 11-1 with a victory over a former title contender can now officially say she's one of the 10 best fighters in her division.
