Police report: Jon Jones ID'd leaving hit-and-run; drugs found in car
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones remains a suspect in a hit-and-run accident that took place in Albuquerque on Sunday, with police now saying the fighter was identified at the scene by an off-duty officer before investigators found drugs inside the vehicle.
According to the police report released to FOX Sports on Monday, the accident happened at 11:22 a.m. MT on Sunday morning, when Jones allegedly ran a red light in a rented silver 2015 Buick before colliding with two different vehicles in the intersection. The report indicates that the driver of one of those vehicles was a pregnant woman, and that the four occupants of the third vehicle were a 38-year-old man and three children: an 8-year-old and two 10-year-olds.
An off-duty officer who was nearby witnessed the accident and identified the driver as Jones, who he says exited the Buick before returning a short time later and then darting off into the hills before the officer lost sight of him.
The drivers of the other vehicles stated that the man in question ran back to the Buick where he grabbed a large handful of cash, stuffed it in his pockets and then left the scene again.
According to the report, the 25-year-old woman involved in the accident, whose name is being withheld, was taken to a local hospital because she is pregnant and claimed that she was feeling as if she might pass out.
Police officers responding to the scene found a marijuana pipe with marijuana inside of it as well as "paperwork belonging to a Jonathan Jones, which had MMA information on it from the state of Nevada."
Officers attempted to contact Jones immediately but were unsuccessful in their attempts. Messages were left for Jones to respond to local police dispatch, but he has not returned calls as of yet.
Jones remains a suspect in the matter, but no warrant has been issued for his arrest as of Monday morning. Stay tuned for more details on this developing story as they become available.
