Patrick Holohan, Mitch Gagnon get new opponents for Halifax card
It's fight week, but there are still changes being made to Saturday's card.
Louis Gaudinot and Rob Font were both injured in recent days and had to pull out of their bouts at UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1: MacDonald vs. Saffiedine in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. In for Gaudinot against Patrick Holohan will be Nova Scotia native Chris Kelades and another newcomer, Roman Salazar, will replace Font vs. Mitch Gagnon, the UFC announced Tuesday.
Holohan (10-0), a training partner of Conor McGregor, is coming off a huge victory over Josh Sampo in his hometown of Dublin in July. Kelades (7-1), a Bellator veteran, is also coming off a victory in July under the ECC banner.
Gagnon (11-2), another Canadian, is a solid prospect in the bantamweight division and coming off three straight victories. Salazar (9-2) has won four in a row with his last loss coming against fellow UFC fighter Anthony Birchak in 2012. He previously fought for the World Fighting Federation organization.
Gagnon-Salazar will kick off the main card, which begins at 10 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. Holohan-Kelades is on the FOX Sports 1 prelims, which begin at 8 p.m. ET.
UFC Fight Night from Halifax is headlined by a welterweight contender bout between Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine. MacDonald would likely earn a title fight with a victory. It will mark the first time the UFC has ever come to Nova Scotia.
