Patrick Cote uppercuts then hammers Ben Saunders for TKO win

Patrick Cote got his second straight TKO victory on Sunday night after he blasted Ben Saunders with a series of uppercuts before finishing the fight on the ground to cap off the UFC Fight Night prelims from Boston.

Cote has looked better than ever since dropping down to welterweight and he showed marked improvement on the ground before actually getting the finish in the second round.

Saunders landed a nice trip takedown to put Cote on his back early and that seemed like a very bad spot for the veteran Canadian.

Cote didn't panic, however, and instead nearly wrapped up an arm bar from the bottom that force Saunders to move and lose the position on the ground.

The second round saw Cote really take over as his confidence swelled from the opening stanza, but this time he kept the fight in his world while fishing for the knockout.

Cote got inside on Saunders at one point, placed his hand behind the neck and started to unload a series of uppercuts to the head and to the body. Saunders eventually wilted from the pressure of the shots as he fell to the ground and Cote was relentless with his attack, continuing the assault with short punches and hammer fists until the referee saw enough to stop the fight.

Cote is now an impressive 5-1 since dropping down to 170 pounds with his only loss coming to top 10 ranked fighter Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson.

At 35, Cote showed he still has plenty of fight left in him and judging by his last two knockout victories, he's got a lot of power as well.
