Nate Diaz nearly five pounds over weight for return fight to UFC
Following a year long absence from the sport dealing with a contract dispute, Nate Diaz made a rather inauspicious return on Friday by missing weight for his fight against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night on FOX in Phoenix.
Diaz hit the scale weighing 160.6-pounds -- a full 4.6-pounds over the 156-pound limit for a fight taking place in the lightweight division.
While fighters are routinely given time to try to cut additional weight, Diaz declined and will be fined 20-percent of his fight purse for the infraction.
Diaz has been out since late 2013 when he knocked out Gray Maynard at The Ultimate Fighter Finale before taking time off while in a contract dispute with the UFC.
He opted to return when he was offered a fight against dos Anjos, who is currently ranked in the top five of the division.
The fight will move forward with Diaz's penalty going to dos Anjos after missing weight on Friday.
