Miocic wants Gonzaga next

Stipe Miocic has his eyes on a heavyweight matchup for his next fight following weeks of rumored opponents that never panned out for the Ohio native.

He became a hot product after his blistering performance over Roy Nelson in June at UFC 161, but the revolving door of potential names has looked similar to the laundry list of quarterbacks his hometown Cleveland Browns have gone through this season. Most recently, Miocic's name was attached to a potential matchup against Travis Browne until he was shifted to a fight against Josh Barnett at UFC 168 instead.

So rather than sitting back and waiting for an opponent, Miocic and his management team have asked the UFC to match him up with Brazilian fighter Gabriel Gonzaga, fresh off a win over Shawn Jordan last weekend at UFC 166.

Gonzaga blasted through Jordan by knockout in the first round, marking his second straight finish in the UFC in less than two minutes time.

Miocic's camp believes that Gonzaga is a very intriguing matchup for them, and they've asked to get matched up with the 17 fight UFC veteran as soon as possible. Given Gonzaga's quick win over Jordan at UFC 166, a quick turn around for a fight against Miocic could easily fill an open spot on an upcoming UFC fight card.
