Matt Mitrione brutally knocks out Derrick Lewis in 41 seconds
LEDYARD, Conn. -- Well, that didn’t take very long.
Matt Mitrione was offended that Derrick Lewis uttered his name after beating his training partner back in July. So the former Ultimate Fighter competitor took his anger out on Lewis' face.
Mitrione knocked out Lewis in just 41 seconds Friday at UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1: Souza vs. Mousasi here in Connecticut. Both men came forward to start the first round and basically Mitrione just landed a right hand first and Lewis fell to the canvas.
Referee Mario Yamasaki was a little late to step in as Mitrione hammered a prone Lewis with ground and pound. Lewis seemed to be defending somewhat, but the fight was basically over after the first punch.
Mitrione (8-3) has now won two straight, both by knockout. The former NFL player might finally be putting it all together at the age of 36 years old. The Blackzilians product started MMA late and has always had potential.
Lewis (11-3, 1 NC) had decimated both Guto Inocente, Mitrione's training partner, and Jack May in his first two UFC fights and was looked at his a prospect in the heavyweight division. He might still be that at age 29, but now he's going to just be looking to get back on track.
