Machida KOs Munoz in main event

When it was announced that Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida was moving down to the middleweight division, many believed the former UFC light heavyweight champion would quickly emerge as a potential contender in the 185-pound ranks.

Squaring off against his friend Mark Munoz in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night event in Manchester, England, the Brazilian made it clear that he’s already a force to be reckoned with in his new weight class, finishing “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” just after the midway point of the opening round with a brilliant left high kick.

After feeling each other out for most of the frame, Machida landed a pair of heavy kicks to the body. The next time he pulled the trigger, the 35-year-old Brazilian went upstairs, crashing his shin into the side of Munoz’ head with such force that the partially blocked blow still put the former National champion wrestler down for the count.
