Lyoto Machida stuns C.B. Dollaway in first-round KO
Lyoto Machida once more demonstrated his single-strike stopping power with a quick first-round TKO Saturday night in the main event of UFC Fight Night against C.B. Dollaway in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Dollaway had won four out of his past five fights, but the former light heavyweight champion Machida stopped the surging young fighter with a left kick to the ribs early, and that was the beginning of the end.
After getting underneath Dollaway's guard with the body kick, Machida pounced on the injured and grimacing American with strikes that dropped him and forced the referee to stop the fight at 1:02 of the first round.
"That kick landed, I saw that he felt it and I went in for the finish," Machida said in his post-fight interview.
One fight removed from his close decision loss to middleweight champion Chris Weidman, the 36-year-old Machida went on to say that his goal still is to get the title belt.
The win improves Machida's record to 22-5. Dollaway drops to 15-6.
