Khabib Nurmagomedov taken to hospital, fight with Tony Ferguson canceled at UFC 209

UFC 209 has lost its co-main event.

Undefeated Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center on Thursday evening due to weight cutting issues and was deemed medically ineligible to fight.
According to UFC officials, Nurmagomedov has been treated and discharged but his interim title bout with Tony Ferguson has been canceled due to the doctor's recommendation.
It's a stunning turn of events after Ferguson had already hit the scale and made weight at 154.5 pounds on Friday morning but then rumors began surfacing that Nurmagomedov had been transported to a hospital.

UFC officials have not announced which fight from the remainder of the event will get bumped up to the main card on Saturday night.

There's been no word on whether the fight will be rebooked for a later date.

Nurmagomedov and Ferguson were set to meet for the interim title while current lightweight champion Conor McGregor takes time off while awaiting the birth of his first child in May.

The UFC 209 main event will move forward as scheduled after both Tyron Woodley and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson made weight on Friday morning in Las Vegas.
