Jessica Eye vs. Miesha Tate set for July 25 in Chicago
Two of the world's best bantamweight women will lock up July 25 in Chicago on the UFC Fight Night card. Tuesday afternoon, "America's Pregame" broke the news that former title challenger Miesha Tate and rising contender Jessica Eye will fight one another on that late-summer event.
Eye and Tate have been set to fight one another for a bit, but the when and where seemed to change a bit in the past few weeks. Now, we have a date and a time for the showdown between "Evil" Eye and "Cupcake" Tate.
Tate fought twice in 2014 and has already competed once in 2015, winning all those contests. Since losing two straight to Cat Zingano and champion Ronda Rousey in 2013, "Takedown" has won three straight fights, including an impressive come-from-behind decision over fellow former title challenger Sara McMann at UFC 183.
Tate had an orbital bone broken early in that fight by a strike from McMann, but managed to survive and storm back to earn a majority decision. Eye has lost just once in her past 10 fights overall and is coming off a TKO win vs. Leslie Smith at UFC 180.
Though Eye has looked impressive, UFC 180 was all the way back in November. By the time she takes on Tate, it will have been about eight months since she last competed.
That could result in rust, or it could mean that Eye will be fresher and more finely tuned than ever in her biggest fight to date. The fight is sure to be an exciting one between these two aggressive 135-pounders.
We will check in with the camps of both women and keep you posted with what they think of the fight in the coming weeks and months!
