Dana White: Win, lose or draw, Conor McGregor will defend his title after UFC 202
UFC president Dana White has made one thing very clear on the precipice of the upcoming rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
When the fight is over, McGregor will go back down to featherweight and defend his title against Jose Aldo.
McGregor has been the UFC featherweight champion for more than 200 days since beating Aldo last December, but he still hasn't put the title on the line while he's been engaged in a simmering war with Diaz for the past five months.
As much as McGregor vs. Diaz 2 will bring in at the box office, White says after that grudge is settled it's time to move back to 145 pounds and defend the title against Aldo, who is currently the interim champion in the division.
The result of the rematch won't change the plan for McGregor according to White, who believes it's featherweight or bust after his fight with Diaz on Saturday night.
Still, it's hard to deny that a win by McGregor could potentially set up a trilogy bout with Diaz or even another push at taking a second title in the lightweight division.
White seems dead set against all of those ideas, but McGregor says he hasn't made up his mind about what comes next after he's finished with Diaz at UFC 202.
"I'm having a hard time deciding who's next after this one. We'll see," McGregor said. "We'll let things play out and then we'll figure it out."
