Dana White: Ronda Rousey wants to fight Cris Cyborg
The long rumored fight between Ronda Rousey and Cris "Cyborg" Justino may still happen after all.
According to UFC president Dana White, Rousey would love nothing more than to fight "Cyborg" in the Octagon now that the Brazilian knockout artist is part of the organization.
"Cyborg" debuted in the UFC back in May with a first round TKO over Leslie Smith before returning this past Saturday night where she dispatched newcomer Lina Lansberg with a brutal second round TKO.
Meanwhile, Rousey has been out of action since last November after she was finished by Holly Holm, but her comeback may happen as early as UFC 207 for a proposed bout against current women's bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.
If that bout happens and Rousey is victorious, White seems to think it's possible that she could face "Cyborg" in what would likely be the biggest women's fight of all time.
"Ronda could do 140," White told the "UFC Unfiltered" podcast this week.
In the past, Rousey has argued against a fight with "Cyborg" while saying that the Brazilian would have to move down to 135 pounds to face her in the UFC. Rousey repeatedly accused "Cyborg" of being a steroid user after she failed a drug test in 2011 and said that the fight would only happen if they met at bantamweight.
White contends that the weight would still probably be a point of concern to put the fight together, but he's confident that Rousey and "Cyborg" could find a happy medium to put the matchup together.
As far as "Cyborg" and her status with the UFC, she remains one of the sport's biggest stars but White isn't ready to commit to a new weight class just to accommodate her fighting at 145 pounds.
"Cyborg" typically competes at featherweight where she's the current Invicta FC champion, but White says the division isn't deep enough to justify introducing an entire weight class to crown her as champion.
"I don't think so. First of all, there aren't enough 145 pound female fighters to start a 45 pound division. There just isn't," White said. "Cyborg is this one girl floating out there who has that type of star power."
"Cyborg" has long campaigned for the UFC to introduce a 145 pound division not to mention her own concerns about the brutal weight cut she suffers through to get down to 140 pounds where she's fought at twice already inside the Octagon.
For now it appears "Cyborg" will remain a featured attraction for the UFC for super fights with a bout against Rousey still lingering as a possibility.
