Cormier inks new UFC deal

Daniel Cormier, just weeks removed from his second UFC fight where he defeated Roy Nelson at UFC 166, has inked a new deal with the promotion and now he's eyeing his light heavyweight debut in 2014.

The two-time Olympian confirmed the signing with UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani, but wasn't able to state how many fights the new contract covered. Sources later stated that Cormier's new deal was for eight fights in total.

As for his next fight and debut at 205 pounds, Cormier is rumored to face former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans. The two fighters have both been approached about taking the fight, but nothing has been officially offered from the UFC as of yet.

According to Evans, he was told to look at March for a potential date to face Cormier, but Cormier countered and said he wasn't informed that that particular timeline for the rumored fight.

So as of now, Cormier will enjoy the fruits of his new UFC deal while waiting on matchmaker Joe Silva to figure out a date and time for his next fight. Whether it will be against Rashad Evans or not remains to be seen.
