CM Punk walks Anthony Pettis out at UFC 185 and finds out how the other half lives
The last time Anthony Pettis fought in the UFC, former WWE pro wrestler CM Punk was being announced as the latest signee to join the roster before he actually joined him at Duke Roufus' camp in Milwaukee to begin his own journey to the Octagon.
Four months later, Punk joined Pettis and Roufus on the walk to the cage at UFC 185 for the main event where the lightweight title was up for grabs.
While Punk had surely seen the ups and downs of the fight world as a fan and casual observer over the years, he certainly got a harsh lesson in the reality of competing at the highest levels as he was forced to watch his new teammate and friend suffer probably the toughest loss of his entire career as he handed over the lightweight title in a decision loss on Saturday night.
Pettis came out on the wrong end of a lopsided loss to Rafael dos Anjos, who now holds the title and crown as the best lightweight in the world at 155 pounds.
If that wasn't bad enough for the UFC newcomer, Punk also sat cage-side while his other teammate, Sergio Pettis, made his Octagon debut at 125 pounds.
Following a good start to the night for the younger Pettis brother, his night ended just as dramatically when Ryan Benoit connected with a thunderous punch that put him down and out on the canvas.
It was undoubtedly hard to watch both of his teammates fall in the same night, but if there was an upside to this entire ordeal for the UFC newcomer, Punk has now seen the highest of the highs and the lowest of the lows in a very short period of time as a professional fighter.
