Anthony Pettis suffers broken orbital bone at UFC 185
Anthony Pettis is anxious to get back in action following a disastrous outing in his last fight at UFC 185 that cost him the lightweight championship, but he's going to have to wait at least six weeks before he can begin walking on his road to redemption.
Following a five-round decision loss to Rafael dos Anjos last Saturday, Pettis said that a punch to his eye early in the fight distorted his vision and knocked him off balance for the reminder of the bout.
As it turns out, the punch to the eye actually fractured Pettis' orbital bone, which forced the former champion to remain in Dallas until Tuesday before swelling subsided and he could finally fly home.
According to his manager Mike Roberts via UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani, Pettis will have a follow up and be re-evaluated in Milwukee, but they are expected him to be out around six weeks dealing with the injury.
He is already champing at the bit to get back in action to show the world the real Anthony Pettis after an abysmal performance cost him the UFC lightweight title last weekend.
Prior to the fight with dos Anjos in Dallas, Pettis was on a five-fight win streak including a win over Benson Henderson to take home the UFC lightweight title and a subsequent title defense against Gilbert Melendez last December.
