Al Iaquinta steps in to face Jorge Masvidal at UFC Fight Night in Virginia

Following a TKO victory over Joe Lauzon at UFC 183, Al Iaquinta will step in and face Jorge Masvidal at UFC Fight Night: Mendes vs. Lamas on April 4 in Fairfax, Virginia.

UFC officials confirmed the new fight on Monday during FOX Sports Live.

Iaquinta (11-3-1) accepts the fight while riding a three-fight win streak with equally impressive performances in each of his recent bouts.

The New York native has beaten his last three opponents by TKO, including wins over former Ultimate Fighter winner Ross Pearson as well as the victory over Lauzon last weekend.

Now Iaquinta will face Masvidal in the new co-main event headed to Virginia on April 4.

Masvidal has already undergone two opponent changes after Bobby Green was originally placed in the fight, but dropped out just days later with an injury.  Former lightweight champion Benson Henderson then accepted the fight before he was pulled to face Brandon Thatch in the main event of next weekend's UFC Fight Night card in Colorado.

Masvidal will still get the chance to compete with Iaquinta now set as his latest opponent.

UFC Fight Night: Mendes vs. Lamas goes down from Fairfax, Virginia, on April 4 with a 1 p.m. ET start time for the card.
