Wilander out of hospital after blood transfusion

Former champion Mats Wilander has left hospital in Melbourne after receiving a blood transfusion following a fall in his apartment on the eve of the Australian Open.

A post on the Facebook page for his company, Wilander on Wheels, says the 47-year-old Swede is ''healing properly'' after lacerating one of his kidneys during the fall late Saturday. He was given 3 litres (6.34 pints) of blood in hospital.

Wilander, who won the Australian Open three times among his seven Grand Slam singles titles, is hoping he can resume hosting a daily highlight show for television channel Eurosport at this year's tournament. He will be unable to play tennis for a month.
