Tennis Hall of Fame to launch $16M expansion
NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in Rhode Island is set to break ground in the first phase of a major project to expand and upgrade its facilities.
The $15.7 million project will upgrade the museum with new technology and exhibitions, add additional tennis courts and facilities and improve campus-wide amenities, including the tennis stadium. The campaign also aims to revitalize the streetscape on nearby Memorial Boulevard.
Officials on Wednesday will launch the first component of the project that includes the development of a new tennis facility and a new building to house locker rooms, a fitness area, retail space and Hall of Fame offices.
Those scheduled to attend the groundbreaking ceremony in Newport include Gov. Lincoln Chafee, U.S. Rep. David Cicilline and state Senate president Teresa Paiva Weed.
