STOSUR AND SCHIAVONE SEAL DOHA PLACES
Australia's Sam Stosur and Francesca Schiavone of Italy have both qualified for the singles draw of the WTA Championships for the first time.
The pair will join Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonareva, Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters at the Doha event at the end of the month.
''I've been there a few times for doubles, so to qualify in singles is very exciting,'' said world number eight Stosur. ''It's always been a goal of mine to achieve this.''
Venus Williams also qualified for the event but was forced to withdraw with a knee injury which has ended her season, meaning there are two places left up for grabs, currently occupied by Jelena Jankovic and Elena Dementieva.
