Soderling beats Gimeno-Traver in Valencia Open
Robin Soderling claimed his 50th win of the year in beating Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain 6-2, 6-3 Thursday in the second round of the Valencia Open.
The second-seeded Swede won 24 of 26 points on his first serve and saved both break points he faced in the match. He used strong returns to break the Spaniard twice in the first set and once more in the second, wrapping up the win in little more than an hour.
Fourth-seeded David Ferrer of Spain also advanced, beating Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-4, 6-1.
Sixth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia defeated Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina 7-6 (0), 6-2 while Italy's Potito Starace bested Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay, 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-2.
