Serena Williams tears tendon in foot again, is finished for season

Serena Williams is done for the season, just like her sister.

In a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press by her agent, the younger Williams said Tuesday she "re-tore the tendon" in her right foot, which she originally injured by cutting it on glass at a restaurant shortly after winning Wimbledon in July. Williams had surgery in New York on Monday; she first had the foot repaired July 15.

Her announcement comes less than two weeks after Venus Williams said she won't play for the rest of the year because of a lingering injury to her left knee. Both sisters will miss the WTA Championships next week in Doha, Qatar, and the Fed Cup final between the United States and Italy next month at San Diego. Serena lost the No. 1 ranking last week to Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki, who has yet to win a Grand Slam tourney.

Quade staying as Cubs' manager

CHICAGO | The Cubs will keep Mike Quade as their manager, choosing to go with the man who ran the team for the last six weeks of last season rather than a higher-profile name like Hall of Famer and franchise icon Ryne Sandberg.

He served as interim manager after Lou Piniella abruptly stepped down in late August, leading the team to a 24-13 record. The job will be his first as a major league manager.
