Report: Integrity unit boots 2 spectators

Two spectators at a professional tennis tournament in Auckland, New Zealand have been thrown out after being accused of illegal betting, stuff.co.nz reported Tuesday.

The pair were removed from the Heineken Open at the ASB Tennis Centre in Auckland after allegedly being caught by the official Tennis Integrity Unit using handheld electronic devices to bet on specific points.

This is considered illegal because there is a delay between what happens on court and when it is broadcast to the world on television.

It was not clear exactly which matches were allegedly being bet on.

The tournament features several top players, including Spaniards David Ferrer and Fernando Verdasco.

The Tennis Integrity Unit, a joint initiative of the International Tennis Federation, the ATP, the WTA and the Grand Slam Committee, is charged with enforcing the sport's zero-tolerance policy towards gambling-related corruption.
