Kellmeyer joins Agassi in Tennis Hall of Fame

Women's tennis pioneer Fern Lee ''Peachy'' Kellmeyer has been elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame, joining Andre Agassi in the Class of 2011.

Kellmeyer's induction in the contributor category was announced Thursday.

She was the first director of the WTA in 1973 and now is a consultant for the women's tour. Hall chairman Christopher Clouser said in a statement that Kellmeyer ''played a critical role in the growth of the game and in improving rights for female athletes.''

The hall's announcement notes Kellmeyer ''spearheaded a lawsuit that ... paved the way for Title IX and contributed greatly to the increase of female athletes in intercollegiate athletics.''

Kellmeyer and Agassi - whose election was announced last week - will be inducted July 9.
