Golubic wins 1st WTA title, beating Bertens in Gstaad final

GSTAAD, Switzerland (AP) Viktorija Golubic won her first WTA title on Sunday, beating French Open semifinalist Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the Ladies Championship Gstaad final.

The 23-year-old Swiss, ranked No. 105, will enter the top 100 for the first time when new standings are confirmed Monday.

Golubic, who was unseeded, raised her game against the 26th-ranked Bertens to win all seven break-point chances she created.

The first WTA event staged in Switzerland since 2008 - the Zurich Open won by Venus Williams - ended with a home nation winner on the Swiss Alps clay courts.

Golubic's breakthrough season has peaked at home. In April, she won two singles rubbers in a Fed Cup semifinal at Lucerne that Switzerland lost to the two-time defending champion Czech Republic.
