Goffin pulls Belgium level with Croatia in Davis Cup
LIEGE, Belgium (AP) David Goffin defeated Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 on Sunday as Belgium drew level 2-2 with Croatia before the final rubber in their Davis Cup first-round tie.
Despite his 14 aces, Cilic was broken five times on the clay court of the Country Hall.
Cilic, the 2014 U.S. Open champion, saved a match point at 5-6, 15-40 but hit a double fault on his next serve.
Goffin has now won 10 of his last 11 singles matches in the cup, with his only defeat coming to Andy Murray in the deciding match of the 2015 final.
Belgium's Kimmer Coppejans was set to take on 19-year-old Borna Coric in the final match to decide which team faces the United States in July's quarterfinals.
