Del Potro wins 1st-round match at Australian Open

Former U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro has maintained his record of never losing in the first round at the Australian Open, beating France's Adrian Mannarino 2-6, 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 Monday.

Del Potro, who won the U.S. Open in 2009 but was forced to take most of 2010 off with a right wrist injury, has never lost in the first round in six appearances at Melbourne Park.

Mannarino had beaten del Potro in their only previous head-to-head, in two tiebreak sets on grass at Queen's last year.

Monday's match was delayed at 5-1 with a set point for del Potro in the second set when an ill spectator was taken from the lower stands at Hisense Arena.
