Canadian Marino beats Bartoli in Bell Challenge
Canadian Rebecca Marino beat top-seeded Marion Bartoli of France 6-3, 6-1 on Wednesday in the second round of the WTA Tour's Bell Challenge.
The 19-year-old Marino, from Vancouver, British Columbia, advanced to the second round of the U.S. Open before falling 7-6 (3), 6-3 to Venus Williams.
Americans Melanie Oudin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands also advanced. The fifth-seeded Oudin beat Georgia's Anna Tatishvili 6-3, 6-0, and Mattek-Sands topped sixth-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany 6-1, 6-4.
In another second-round match in the indoor event at Club Avantage Multi-Sports de Quebec, third-seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic topped Sweden's Johanna Larsson 6-4, 6-2.
