Xabi Alonso dropped from Spain for Confed Cup

Midfielders Xabi Alonso, Javi Garcia and Benat Etxebarria have been cut from Spain's roster for two exhibition games in the United States and the Confederations Cup.

Alonso missed several games at the end of the season for Real Madrid because of back problems.

Spain coach Vicente del Del Bosque released his 23-man roster Sunday, six days after announcing a preliminary 26-man group.

Winner of the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 European Championship titles, Spain plays Haiti on Saturday in Miami Gardens, Fla., and Ireland on June 11 at New York's Yankee Stadium, then heads to Brazil for the Confederations Cup.

La Furia Roja opens against Uruguay on June 16, plays Tahiti four days later and completes the first round against Nigeria on June 23.
