Wigan draws 1-1 with West Brom

Wigan gave its receding hopes of Premier League survival a boost by hanging on to draw 1-1 against West Bromwich Albion at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

Roberto Martinez's side has endured a run of just one win from 14 games but started brightly and dominated a scoreless first half.

Although West Brom managed to come back into the game in the second period, it was Wigan that opened the scoring through James McArthur in the 54th minute.

But the lead turned out to be shortlived as Wigan's poor home form of just one victory this season was again exposed when Paul Scharner equalized in the 65th.

The result moves the Latics to equal points with fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers and Wolves but they remain bottom on goal difference. West Brom move up to 12th.
