Whitecaps indefinitely suspended Tan

Major League Soccer team the Vancouver Whitecaps have indefinitely suspended Chinese striker Long Tan after he complained on Twitter about a lack of playing time.

Martin Rennie on Friday said ''we just sent him home today because it's pretty clear we don't criticize the club or other people publicly. We would never do that. We (in management) never criticize players. We don't expect players to do that.''

The 24-year-old Tan, the first Chinese player to play up for a MLS team, criticized Rennie, without mentioning him by name, for not giving him playing time and refusing to release him so that he could pursue opportunities with other clubs, writing: ''What do you want? I do not understand!''

Tan could not be reached for further comment.
