Where does Federico Higuain's goal rank among the top bicycle kicks in MLS history?
If you haven't seen Federico Higuain's bicycle kick goal for Columbus Crew SC, welcome to Earth. It's the year 2016 and we're all excited you could make it!
Higuain's goal didn't stop Columbus from losing their season opener at Portland on Sunday, but it just might win MLS Goal of the Year when it's all said and done, which is totally nuts to say because we still have 33 games to go.
Now, how does the Argentine's strike compare to other great bicyle kick goals in MLS history? To that question, MLSSoccer.com put together a great clip compiling all the best ones from recent memory. Enjoy responsibly:
Woah. That's a lot of bikes. After careful consideration, we had to leave Higuian out of our top three all-time, which are as follows:
3) Thierry Henry vs Montreal (2013)
He. Makes. It. Look. So. Easy. God, I miss Henry.
2) Taylor Twellman vs Chicago (2007)
Difficulty level was off the charts for Twellman, who scored his between two defenders after the ball had popped about twenty feet in the air. Oh, and that goal sent the Revolution to 2007 MLS Cup. So there's that, too.
1) Marcelo Balboa vs Columbus (2000)
The first one in the clip. Leave it to a defender, right? Balboa channeled his inner Wayne Rooney with this perfect hit from near the top of the box, which would win the Colorado Rapids star the Goal of the Year award that year.
